Spring Clean Your Skin Care!

It's that time of year where we all engage in a little spring clean around our homes and wardrobes, but how often should we clear out our makeup and skin products...

Most products have a shelf life of around 6 months. Usually lipsticks and mascara won't last that long if used every day - but creams, foundations and creme blushers can last us longer than it should do.

I think most females have a draw tucked away where old shades of foundation lie, along with half empty cleansers and crushed palettes of bronzer! You may return from holiday and remember you have a darker shade of MAC from last summer which would save a few pennys. But -

*** Do not use any skincare products on your skin which are well over 6 months old ***

Our skin is sensitive so we must look after it properly. Allowing our pores to breathe leads to more clarity and a fresher look. Old products may be contaminated with bacteria, have begun to seperate or gone out of date which could be doing more bad than good.

*** Top Tip: Use a spatula when decantering creams to avoid spreading bacteria from spots back into the tub! ***

Once you have a beautifully clear and depressingly empty draw in front of you, you now have a perfect excuse to buy some more! This brings me onto the next point and the most important. Only use ONE BRAND. So many clients had never been told this before and the difference in their skin is visible. By using this one simple step, you will be training your skin to become acquainted with the brand you chose.

Sounds silly but having your skin get used to one brand helps with:

~ Makeup which will stay on longer (as your base layer is prepared)

~ The individual products work better as a team

~ Maintaining clearer skin

~ Reducing spots & blackheads

~ Keeping an even tone

Top designer retailers and high street skincare brands are not tested against each others compatability. Therefore a Creme De La Mer nightcream would not have had to pass any guidelines in terms of being compatible with your No.7 cleanser. No one knows in detail what using these 2 products will do your skin. Thats enough to turn me off.

Next time you buy yourself or a friend a new skincare serum or primer, just have a think what they already use and stick with that!

If your reading this and dreading using your nightcream which you may have had several anniversary's with, then here is a link to the one stop brand you need specialising in every skin type.
